In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, you take on the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Mordor is the home kingdom of the Uruks, in the southeast of Middle-earth to the East of Gondor, Ithilien and the great river. Mordor was chosen to be Sauron's fortress because of the mountain ranges surrounding it on three sides, creating a natural fortress against his enemies. Much of the land was a volcanic waste due to the activity of Mount Doom, but some could be cultivated and the Dark Lord's slaves raised food for his armies here as well. The lands of Mordor are protected by three mountain ranges on all sides. The Ash Mountains lies in the north and the Mountains of Shadow in the west and south. The only viable large entryway into Mordor lies in the north-west corner of Mordor: the deep valley of Udûn protected by the Black Gate of Mordor. Sauron's Dark Tower, the fortress of Barad-dûr, was located at the foothill of the Ash Mountains. Every enemy that players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session. Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player. Sleeping Dogs is an open world crime drama video game in development by United Front Games in conjuction with Square Enix London Studios, and is to be published by Square Enix. The game will be released on Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Sleeping Dogs focuses on a police officer attemptiong to bring down criminal factions. The game takes place in Hong Kong with players assuming control of Detective Wei Shen, and officer of the Triad Bureu of Hong Kong Police. Wei has been assigned to go undercover and infiltrate the Triad organization called Sun On Yee. The plot focuses on the moral struggle of Wei to stay true to his mission, nad stop the Triads while maintaining his cover and being as much like the criminals as possible. The core gameplay of Sleeping Dogs consists of giving the player an open world environment in which to move around freely. SD is played as an over-the-shoulder, third-person perspective action-adventure game. The player controls police officer Wei Shen as he goes undercover and infiltrate the Triad organization called Sun On Yee, as well as use weapons and perform hand-to-hand combat. Players are also able to drive a variety of vehicles, including cars, boats and motorcycles. The combat system heavily revolve around hand-to-hand fighting with strong influences from Batman: Arkham City's "Freeflow" combat system. The driving segments have been inspired by the Need for speed series, with several developers having worked on previous NFS titles. If the player is riding a motorcycle for example, Wei has the ability to jump onto moving vehicles. Although storyline missions are necessary to progress through the game and unlock certain content and parts of the city, they are not required, as players can complete them at their own leisure. When not attempting storyline missions, players can free-roam, giving them the ability to do activities. Side missions such as participating in street races kan keep the player occupied for hours. There are also stores within the game that Wei Shen can purchase new cloting from, which give him various bonuses. As suits will increase Face, gang attire adds Triad XP, the same applices to police uniforms, increasing Police XP. Sleeping Dogs will feature three different XP stats, Triad XP, Face XP and Police XP. The more triad XP a player has, the more brutal equipment and abilities he can access and unlock throughout the game. With more Face XP, the player has more respect, and is granted access to more important people. The more Police XP the player earn, the better police eqiupment and abilities you can access and unlock. Sleeping Dogs feature online stats and leaderboards to compare scores, however there will be no multiplayer component in the game. The interface of the game features a mini-map that displays a map of the city and key locations(safe houses and ocntact points) or targets. Wei's health is shown by a red semicircle on the left side of the mini-map, while a green semicircle on the right represents armor.
