The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Recommended Posts

Tok noen skjermbilder i stad.

From the memes to the mods to the amazing stories that continue to be told, we’ve been blown away by the continued community support for Skyrim. All of it has driven us to make the game even better, and we’re excited to start sharing news on upcoming features and content.

It all starts with our upcoming 1.5 title update – available now as a Beta Update on Steam and arriving soon for Xbox 360 and PS3. In the release notes below, you’ll notice we’ve not only made fixes to the game, but also introduced some new features. One of our favorite additions are the new kill cameras for ranged and magic attacks. Watch the video above for a sneak peek.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/05/01/skyrim-39-s-first-dlc-has-a-name.aspx

Bethesda has announced the official name of Skyrim's first set of DLC.

Dawnguard is Skyrim's first DLC, according to Bethesda's Blog. It announced the name of the DLC with the image you see above, and not much else, other than a summer release window. We don't know a date, or anymore details, but Bethesda has previously announced that Skyrim DLC will head to Xbox 360 first.

We will find out more about Dawnguard at this year's E3.

After much speculation, the MMO version of The Elder Scrolls role-playing series has officially been announced. Developed byZeniMax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online will allow players to quest across the entire continent of Tamriel 1000 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls V, which includes the provinces of Cyrodiil (where The Elder Scrolls IV was set) and Skyrim (setting of The Elder Scrolls V).

No screens or video have yet been released, but more information will be made available through Game Informer, as the reveal is part of their June 2012 cover story.

Men seriøst.... sci-fi slår lett noen gamle dverg historier

It has long since rumored, even before Skyrim was announced, that there was an Elder Scroll Online in development. An MMO set in the Elder Scrills universe. And yesterday it was officially announced to be in development (by Zenimax Online, basically a sister-company to Bethesda).

GameInformer announced it by revealing the cover for their next issue. In that issue they officially give a first look at the game.

The GameInformer issue hasn't released yet (far as I know), but even so it has already leaked online. And it doesn't sound very good.

Basically, everything that makes the Elder Scrolls games good isn't in the MMO. It's third-person instead of first-person. It has 'stylized' graphics instead of realistic graphics. It's tab-targetting hotbar combat instead of real-time combat. It has classes instead of free skill-based progression. It uses a quest system instead of just free exploration (though supposedly their quest system are 'hub-less' to make up for it). It doesn't include player housing, changing into vampires/werewolves, marrying NPCs, etc. In fact I'm having a hard time seeing why it's called Elder Scrolls. From the details leaked so far it just sounds like WoW with the Elder Scrolls name. They even literally refer to WoW on several occasions in a "it's like that" kind of way.

One difference from WoW is that there will be three factions instead of two. The nine races are divided into three factions. And they all fight in Cyrodil in PvP to be crowned emperor or something. For the rest the MMO implements most all of Tamriel (though they're purposely leaving pieces of land unimplemented for expansions) and it takes place 1000 years before Skyrim. It has both instanced and public dungeons and uses phasing to give players the illusion that their actions are affecting the world. And it will be fully voiced.

I don't know. Yesterday evening when I first heard of it I thought that it could be quite good; The Elder Scrolls really lends itself well to a sandbox-type game. But now that details have been revealed my excitement for the game is pretty much zero as it sounds like they're trying to jam a themepark-style, strongly WoW-inspired, MMO design into the Elder Scrolls and trampling all over the franchise in the process.

There's more I'd need to hear, but right now this game is very strongly in the 'pass' column for me despite having loved the previous Elder Scrolls games. Because nothing I liked in those games I hear reflected in this MMO.
